Is it a-maize-ing?

Corny business...

I love corn.

That is, all things corn related. (except for baby corn, they're just evil). As such, I love polenta so when a restaurant opened in Soho serving predominantly polenta I was a little excited!

With the number of new food places opening in Soho every week I never quite got the chance to get to La Polenteria so when a deal came up on Amazon Local I was on it! (they have the same deal on now!)

Upon arrival we were promptly seated and presented with the menu. The menu had a number of options across starters, mains and desserts so it wasn't hard to find something that caught my eye. However, the main menu is a little more extensive and left me turning my head every time another table got their meals.

The starters promptly arrived (we opted for starters and mains choosing to skip the desserts in favour of Gelupo a few streets away) and were rather tasty. I opted for the polenta bruschetta with stracchino and caponata while the other half went for the polenta with egg, scarmoza cheese, purple broccoli and herbs oil. As mentioned, both were rather tasty and quickly polished off. One thing about mine... it would have been better if the polenta bruschetta were actually hot rather than room temperature. Other than that, thumbs up!

For mains I opted for the polenta roll with scarmoza cheese and spinach while the other half went for the homemade lasagne. Don't worry... I too questioned the lasagne choice seeing as we were in a polenta restaurant but hey, the other half wants what he wants!

Polenta roll

Home made lasagne

The polenta roll was absolutely delicious and reminded me of a spinach and ricotta cannelloni. It was all sorts of creamy, tasty and cheesy spinach. Shame it was such a small serving and left me feeling a little hungry. The homemade lasagne was tasty but it wasn't anything too special or unique but at least it was a good serving size!

Considering I paid £21 for 2 people to have 2 courses and a glass of wine each I don't have too much to complain about. I'll just have to add it back to the list so as I can go back and check out the full menu. The prices (outside of the deal) weren't too ridiculous so definitely worth a visit.

The place itself is rather casual so no need to be fancy coming here. The service was good but on the particular night we went they seemed quite understaffed so things were left unattended for awhile. Certainly not a deal breaker but something to bear in mind.

Would we go back? Yeah... but I'm in no huge rush with so many others to try first!

Coming up this week...

... w/c 6th July

How is it July already? The other half doesn't quite believe but it truly is nearly Christmas! Well... we're at least on the right side of the half way mark to say so!

Tuesday 7th July
Carsten Nicolai's 'Unicolour' @ Brewer Street Carpark

I'm guilty of eating lunch at my desk so when I caught wind of this art installation in a car park nearby I couldn't pass it up. It's free, it's close and it's interesting! Plus who doesn't love a bit of rainbow to brighten up their work week?

The Book of Mormon @ The Prince of Wales Theatre (again)

We're off to see it again! The key to seeing this at a reasonable price (£75 a pop?!) and in good seats is to get a group. The first and this time I gathered a group of people (you just need 10+) and got seats for £49 with no booking fee. Go here and the lovely people on the other end of the line will help you out. They even hold tickets for a month so that you can get your group sorted and your monies in order!

Saturday 11th July
Ealing Beer Festival @ Walpole Park

I'm not a huge fan of beer (I actually don't like it that much...) but the other half and most of my friends are. So we're off to the now local festival to see what they have to offer (they will also have ciders so I'm ok!). In it's 26th year they've got to be doing something right! The festival actually starts on the 8th but we can't make it till the Saturday!

See you out there!
