Over the May bank holiday long weekend thousands of people packed into Trafalgar Square lured by sunshine and the promise of a free show.
Much busier than 2012's session, Trafalgar Square was practically full 45mins before the show was due to start.
I figured there was no time to spare so I didn't bother heading to meet the gang at the designated spot instead opting to half run/half walk through the security barriers to nab some space. Throwing down two picnic blankets, I awaited the arrival of the others with picnic food and drinks in hand.
As the sun set and with on-the-spot made Pimms in hand, the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) played Berlioz's Le Corsaire and Symphhonie Fantastique putting on a good show.

Maybe it was because the symphony told a story that had to be explained (less talks, more music please).
Maybe it was the sound system that didn't quite reach the far corners of the square.
Maybe there was too many people and it didn't feel so special. (even if half of the crowd had left before the end of the show)
Either which way, I was left a little disappointed by the end and not feeling like I got to actually hear enough classical music.
Saying that, I'd still try to make the 2014 performance. Can't really pass up a free show can you?
If nothing else, at least the opportunity arose to create the 'Choringle'.
Pringle - Chorizo - Pringle.

Keep an eye out for the next BMW Open Air Classics in 2014. They've promised to return for their 3rd performance...
Here's hoping it's more like 2012 than 2013.
