Holden would eat and drink here...

A little piece of NYC comes to London...

Jackson + Rye opened some months ago and it's been on my list of places to go ever since. The wait was worth the wait.

Being relatively close to work, we were able to book in for lunch and be in and out within 45mins - 1hr. I'll be honest, 2 out of the 3 (me included obviously) had already perused the menu so it was a quick decision and choice once we were sat.

We all ordered off the 'All Day' menu so perhaps this added to the speed of the order delivery. Speed however did not affect the taste and we were soon quiet, too busy to talk because of the deliciousness we were consuming.

I went for the 'buttermilk fried chicken sandwich' having always wanted to try that kind of chicken (let's be honest... when is fried chicken a bad thing?) It was all sorts of right - chicken fillet was juicy and tender, the buttermilk coating crispy without being sickeningly oily and the chipotle mayo providing the necessary kick. It was a well sized lunch option but I would still suggest adding some fries on the side to share (or eat on your own).

The place itself has an old New York brasserie vibe crossed with a Gentleman's Club dining room. With low lighting, checkerboard floor and black leather booths, you instantly feel cool and relaxed. On a mid week lunch visit it had a good buzz with Soho locals and though it had a little hipster vibe, it certainly wasn't pretentious or uncomfortable for the more normal folk!

Would we come back? Hell yeah. We'd barely scratched the surface of the menu and boy is there a few more things I'd like to try! Plus they have weekend brunch... and I haven't even mentioned the desserts?! Then there's the night vibe when it's more of a bar! Could I BE anymore excited...?
