An afternoon with Mr Miyagi...

Sushi. Love it. Can't get enough of it. (as long as it's fresh)

My sister recently bought a group deal online for a sushi making class and when she asked if I'd go with her, it really was quite difficult to say no.

So... late one Saturday morning, we made our way to Tsunami in Clapham. Mainly a restaurant, we arrived to find an area cordoned off for our sushi class.

15 people, plastic bag like aprons and gloves on, we sat around ready to learn (and yes...eat).

Over the next 1.5hrs, we would be taught and make ourselves 7 different types of sushi:

• Tuna Truffle Hosomaki
• Vegetable Special Hosomaki
• Snow Crab Uramaki (California roll)
• Soft Shell Crab Futomaki
• Salmon Omusubi (triangle sushi)
• Prawn Tempura Temaki (cone hand roll)
• Seabass Nigiri 

Let me tell you... there was no scrimping with the ingredients and there was not a crab stick in sight. Even more, the soft shell crab futomaki involved a WHOLE crab. I know they're not exactly huge but I certainly wasn't expecting a WHOLE crab to go in my futomaki. (don't get me wrong, there was no complaining from me nor was I asking them to take some of it back!)

The class was fun and our teacher incredibly helpful with a few laughs thrown in for good measure. We even got to try the items he made (all in turn) and one of the people on my table won a sushi trophy for the best temaki! Certainly better than a gold trophy collecting dust! 

By the end of the class you'll come away with a box (or a bit more) full of sushi and the need to rush out and buy your own sushi rice, seaweed and rolling matt for home!

With the deal it was £59 for 2 people which considering the ingredients isn't too bad. The website doesn't have any costings so unfortunately I couldn't say how much it would be normally. Certainly not something I would do too often but it was a good way to spend a few hours of a weekend!
