Once Upon a Grimm Tale...

...deep beneath the floor...

A young lady in a hooded robe of blood red beckoned us from our drinking and asked us to follow her... quickly!

Heading down to the basement chambers of the Shoreditch Town Hall, we were walking into a land of fairy tales with a slightly darker twist. This was Philip Pullman's Grimm Tales - re-imagined and brought to life in an immersive theatrical experience. A world exclusive one at that!

I stumbled across the whole shenanigans I'm not quite sure how but there it was and we bought tickets. At £35 a pop it's not a cheap experience but certainly not wasted for a night of theatre, even if it's executed in a non-traditional sense.

Within a group of about 30 people, you are led down corridors, around corners and into rooms where the stories unfold. With a cast of 8 rotating actors, you experience 5 fairy tales (some familiar, some not) in 5 different rooms. You're literally metres away from the actors and in touching reach of the set and props. The whole production lasts for about 90mins in total with some extra time in the end to wander.

Is it worth £35? I would say so! It's something you do once and be glad to have done it. The sets are amazing and they have clearly put a lot of thought into it all with not a detail forgotten. I'll be honest in saying that I wanted a little more out of it but hey... that's me. I have high expectations! Everyone else enjoyed it thoroughly so that's got to be a good sign!

The event is stated to be family friendly for those over the age of 8yrs (6-8yr olds at parental discretion). I'm not sure if I'm a bit of a sissy but I would say over 10yrs. Checkout the trailer and see for yourself.

Get in quick, Grimm Tales only runs till 24th April!
