For Cow and Country

In celebration of a special day...

It was recently The Mr Hyde National Burger Day and not one to pass up on celebrating special days with a discount thrown in (20% off numerous locations nationwide), I went in search of an interesting burger joint to try out.

Meat & Shake had recently dropped off a flyer in our mailbox having opened up their second location in our local area. It made sense.

Upon arrival, the restaurant had already been open a week. We were promptly sat in a mini booth for 2 which seemed like a good idea at the time but will be given a wide berth the next time. It was right by the bar (where all the milkshake action happens) and the food hutch (where all the food is delivered from the upstairs or downstairs kitchen) which meant a lot of traffic and noise. We weren't exactly there for a romantic burger but it did make the experience a little more full on and loud.

If you want to eat meat there is no shortage of options on the menu. As it was National Burger Day we were there for the burgers but boy did we pick up other options for next time. (there will be a next time and we will be putting weight on) At the time of print there were 12 options to choose from including chicken and vegie choices PLUS a changing special.

Let's breakdown the meal:

MILKSHAKES: first, there's over 10 options (plus a guest one on top!)and they're all quite unique. The other half went for the apple pie which actually had chunks of apple pie blended in and I went for the coffee. Delicious. Both of them. Perfect consistency. Perfect flavours.

BURGERS: The other half went for the Von Longhorn and I went for the Smoking Bandit. Though the burgers weren't out of this world delicious, they were very tasty and had some interesting (in a good way!) combination of ingredients you don't see elsewhere. Mine was actually smoked before my eyes arriving at the table with a glass dome full of smoke. Tasty.

SIDES: One of the reasons (I would think amongst many other things) the other half and I work so well is due to our love of sweet potato fries. The ones at Meat & Shake thankfully did not disappoint. Knowing me, there was of course also a plate of mac and cheese which was also rather tasty. It had a different flavouring compared to others I've had and wasn't as creamy but still damn tasty.

Overall it was a good experience and we'll be coming back again. (we're already walked there purely to get a milkshake - peanut butter, thumbs up!) The service was great (our particular waiter anyways) and the vibe was relatively good. (except for the angry customer doing a lot of loud talking and energetic arm waving) Pricing wasn't too bad either so it's a yes to Meat & Shake!
